Seminar: Safety, Science and Leadership: Coming Home in One Piece

Abstract:

In many ways, things have really changed in field work. The techniques we use, the way we analyze the data, and the needs of our staff have all changed. It was common that people we were bringing on as professors, students, and technicians had a lot of outdoor experience and diverse work backgrounds. Now we see a lot of people coming to us with little outdoor experience, limited work backgrounds, and have not had the opportunity to lead others. In this seminar we will look at ways to empower ourselves and students to lead their projects with confidence, ensure the health and safety of our students, technicians and ourselves, and foster a better work environment. In the end, this brings on a better and higher level of science and field work.
