Faculty in the School of Natural Resources & the Environment Engage in Regional Planning

Jan. 10, 2014

Dr. William (?Bill?) Matter, Associate Director of the School of Natural Resources & the Environment (SNRE) in the College of Agriculture, Life and Environmental Sciences, was just named to the Advisory Team for the Pima County Comprehensive Plan Update Initiative called Pima Prospers.

Pima Prospers will focus on improving cooperative management of the region?s infrastructure services, creation of healthy communities, and achievement of economic development and social services goals.  It will examine the unique needs of rural communities and how to address those needs.  Dr. Matter has been a member of the Pima County Planning and Zoning Commission since 1998, and currently is serving his second, two-year term as the Commission?s chair.

Craig Wissler, Assistant Professor in SNRE and Director of the Advanced Resources Technology Laboratory, is serving as chair of the City of Tucson Planning Commission.  Craig has been a Planning Commissioner since 2006 and brings his expertise in geospatial mapping and analysis, landscape architecture, and natural resources conservation to the City?s Commission.

These are just two examples of how faculty of the University of Arizona are engaged with the broader regional community to enhance conditions for those living and working here.
